Rabbit Heart Playlist: The city kids

This has really sort of eaten my brain completely. A playlist for Rabbit Heart.

Opening Theme/Rabbit's theme: Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) by Florence & The Machine
Here I am, a rabbit hearted girl
Frozen in the headlights
It seems I've made the final sacrifice
We raise it up, this offering
We raise it up
This is a gift, it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight

She fell down into the hole and pulled herself through the small space, screaming as hands reached for her feet. She crawled, sobbing and crying as she tried to get away and tried to escape. She wanted to go home. Instead she just fell further and further down.

Elissa’s theme: Soldier on by The Temper Trap
when seasons cease to change and…
how far we've gone
how far we're going
it's the here and the now
and the love for the sound
of the moments that keep us moving

Elissa wrapped her arms around the skinny girl’s shoulders as they walked out of the tunnel into the bright, harsh daylight. She looked back at Peter, catching his eye before looking away. They just had to keep going.

Peter’s theme: Sleazy bed track by The Bluetones
Why hide your face from me?
Why turn away?
All I wanna do is pull you closer and say:
I'm feeling kinda tired.
But it ain't exactly beating down my door.
Now just why could this be?
Will you listen to me?
All you've gotta do is baby kick off your shoes and lay down.
Climb up here with me and let's forget about sleep, just lay down with me.
Lay down next to me.
Lay down with me.

Taking a drag from his cigarette, Peter crushed it beneath his shoes before shuffling through the sleeping bodies to the edge of the bed. Pushing aside the blankets he sighed and turned to look at Elissa, one arm thrown over Rabbit protectively. Kicking off his shoes, he climbed in behind Elissa and held her against him.

Xander’s theme: New Born by Muse
For bitterness inside
Is growing like the new born
When you've seen, seen too much
Too young, young
Soulless is everywhere
Hopeless time to roam
The distance to your home
Fades away to nowhere

They’re everywhere. He’s trained for this, all his life but it was never meant for this. It was never meant for smashing someone’s face in, for kicking them out the way or leaping over broken countertops. It was never meant for hurting people, what used to people. He can’t think of them as people anymore. They’re just dead things, dead things with faces.

Em’s theme: Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon
Hot as a fever, rattling bones
I could just taste it, taste it
If it's not forever, if it's just tonight
Oh, it's still the greatest, the greatest, the greatest
You, your sex is on fire
And you, your sex is on fire
Consumed with what's to transpire

She takes a mouthful of the warm beer, hips swinging as she moves to the music. She knows he’s watching her, pacing like a caged lion as he tries to ignore her brushing past and grinding up and down against her. It’s not his reaction that she’s looking for but hers. The glances away, the smirk to her lips, the way she brushes her hair back behind her ears and scoffs. Em has always liked to push people to their limits but out of everyone in their little group, it’s Beth she wants to drive mad.

Beth’s theme: Cuntry boys and city girls by The Fratellis
Cinderella Cinderella she's my very kind of fella
Part right half wrong oh you know it won't be too long
And oh you know we country boys are only after sex and noise
Take me shake me I'm a real mess oh yes
I love the way you city girls dress even though your head's in a mess

Hand on her hips, she beckons to Peter taking the pack of fags off him before lighting up. She sees the way Em’s nose wrinkles and her eyes rolls. “What? Want to say something Princess?” She asks, jutting her jaw out as she looks at the posh bird. She was a right odd one. Kept winding Xander up something chronic, kept getting him to do shit too. With Beth though she always backs off, eventually at least, like now. “Thought so.”

The gang in the city, cuts to the two children outside the city: O Children by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
We're all weeping now, weeping because
There ain't nothing we can do to protect you
O children
Lift up your voice, lift up your voice
Children
Rejoice, rejoice

"You'll see her soon Rabbit, don't worry." Elissa said, smiling at her though she looked up with worried eyes to Peter and then outside at the barred and shuttered windows that rattled as they brushed past. In here they were trapped.

"She'll be fine Ali, I promise." Carter said, wrapping his arm around his best friend and smiling a little at her as she snuggled close. Alice reached out touching the sky with her fingertips before she looked up at Carter and smiled at him.
"Love you Will," Alice said, closing her eyes as she held him close.
"Love you too Alice."
Out here they were free.
